The Tidewater Regional Group Home Commission operates both residential and non-residential programs. All are community-based, family centered, individually focused, and professionally staffed.

The Commission works closely with local court service units, departments of social services, mental health and substance abuse agencies, and the public school system to provide a full complement of services to youth and families.

Children's Resources secures grant funding to support specific programs; we hold an annual fund raiser, the Santa Claus Shuffle 5K Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk; and we receive donations from individuals, corporations, and civic organizations.

Funds raised by Children's Resources are used to enrich the lives of youth in many ways.

• SUCCESS literacy program - developed specifically for the programs of the Tidewater Regional Group Home Commission, the SUCCESS literacy program stresses reading comprehension and study and organizational skills.
• Education and Counseling Materials - remedial reading supplies, educational and vocational software, and a resource library enhance the quality of services.
• Family Support Fund - assistance with vital needs such as utility payments to avoid loss of services or rent payments to avoid eviction helps stabilize families and see them through crisis situations.
• Capital Needs - improvements to the physical condition of group homes improves the quality of life for residents.
• Participation in cultural arts activities and therapeutic recreation are provided to enrich the lives of children and introduce them to pro-social activities.
• Program Support - financial support from Children's Resources enables the Tidewater Regional Group Home Commission to operate programs that would otherwise be eliminated due to reductions in state funding.

Corporate and community support is vital to the mission of Children's Resources. There are several ways to help:

• You could volunteer your time to tutor. Many of our clients struggle academically and can use the extra help.
• You could visit a group home to share a special skill or talent - or just to be a friend.
• You could invite us to speak at your church or civic group.
• You could check our "wish list" to see if you have any of the items we need.
• You could designate Children's Resources as the recipient of your workplace charitable contribution (United Way of South Hampton Roads, Combined Charities Campaign, Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign, Combined Federal Campaign).
• You could contact us about membership on our board of directors and get directly involved in our mission.
• You could support Children's Resources through Food Lion's Shop and Share Program.
